Salon Etiquette
Clients often ask us about tipping, pricing, and more. Here’s the inside scoop on salon etiquette:
Communication
Please feel free to speak up…about what you like and what you don’t like. The more we know about your preferences, the better we can serve you.
Individuality
Not everyone spends the same amount of time on their hair, make-up, and nails, and we understand that. Tell us about your daily beauty regimen (if you have one), and we can make recommendations for hair cuts, hair styles, and products that will suit your lifestyle.
Photographs
If you especially like something (haircut, hairstyle, hair color, make-up, or nail enhancements), bring us a picture, and we’ll try to follow it.
Chit Chat
Oftentimes, clients are uncertain whether they should talk or not during an appointment. We love the interaction – it’s one of the main reasons many of us enjoy working in a salon – but we try to follow your cues. If you’re in the mood to talk, great. If not, that’s okay, too.
Tipping
Tipping in hair salons and nail salons is similar to restaurants, in which 15%-20% is customary for good service. Like waiters and waitresses, many hair stylists and nail technicians rely on tips as part of their living wages.
Pricing For “Trims” Vs. “Cuts”
Clients sometimes ask why we charge the same price for a “trim” as we do for a “cut.” The answer is that both a trim and a cut require the same steps.
Running Late
If you’re running late, please give us a quick call. The heads-up gives us a chance to juggle our tasks so that we can still give you our full attention when you arrive.
Appointment Cancellations
We appreciate 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, no questions asked. This courtesy call will allow us to book someone else in your time slot.
